Red, gold, and green — red, gold, and green

A pair of sneakered feet stands on the crossbar of a prison door that is padlocked shut. In the background, another prisoner sits on a bed, reading a book.

Last week ended a streak of Friday 10s with a lot of lyrics identified. Instead, we wound up with one solitary lyric identified by John. If you want to know what the other 9 lyrics (and the bonus point!) were, you can see the answers now at the original post and on a YouTube playlist.

Among the unidentified songs was Lonnie Donegan’s “Puttin’ on the Style.” These days, familiarity with Donegan is a kind of specialist knowledge — but in his time he was a huge pop cultural force, helping introduce the British isles to skiffle (as filtered through a British folk lens) and touching off the creation of literally thousands of local bands. The staff of some of those bands would eventually coalesce into a group called… let me check my notes… “The Beatles?”

10 more lyrics! Get in the comments to identify the titles and the artists. You’ve got to get at least close, and if you identify a cover version (that I can find), I’ll give you credit! And remember, do it off the top of your head — no searching, no asking an LLM, no turning to the guy in the cubicle next to yours and saying, “Hey, does this sound familliar–?”

  1. So the post’s title is Kama chameleon by Boy George (which I’ve never had to spell before but should be close enough). The rest I need to mull over, see if anything shakes loose.

  2. Ok, now that I sung Boy George out of my head I know these! Or think I do!

#1 is money grabber by Fitzs and the Tantrums
#5 is creep by radio head
#6 sounds like Adam Levine on my heart’s a stereo – but I know he was only featured on the track
Is 7 the Kendrick Lamar diss track of drake?
I’m guessing for #10 green door by Crystal Gayle
