A bleach blonde mama with a streak of mean

A very happy, very fluffy puppy standing in the middle of a field.

Last week, two of ten lyrics were identified — resulting in a tie between John and Fred. The answers are up now — including in a nice, simple YouTube playlist you can enjoy at your leisure!

The other 8 featured a lot of favorites, a couple of problematic favorites, and the man now known as the lost prince of Yacht Rock, Dane Donohue. His 1978 debut album featured backups and features from Don Henley and Stevie Nicks and was on its way to a slow burn success — an upward move in the career of the OSU graduate and former star of a national touring company of Jesus Christ Superstar. But after a couple of hit singles on the air and a slew of positive reviews, Columbia sent Donohue on a press tour without a band — meaning he spent months doing interviews instead of playing concerts, just as disco exploded on the airwaves and Toto ran rampant on the easy listening charts.

It’s time for 10 new lyrics, so get ready to get in the comments and get to guessin’! Remember, don’t search for the answers on Google, Bing, or any other search engine or reference sight, just pull ’em off the top of your head. And don’t bother asking ChatGPT or Claude, they’ll tell you that all of these lyrics are from MC Hammer’s “The Addams Groove.”

  1. You’re too fine, I guess. Got too much ass, can’t be depressed
  2. Industry don’t pay a price that’s fair, all the common people breathing filthy air
  3. You’re gonna need an ocean of calamine lotion
    The Coasters, “Poison Ivy” 📺

  4. Now that we’re a part of a Nigerian prince scam — surprise, surprise, it ends up being a white man
  5. Nobody can tell ya there’s only one song worth singin’
  6. We don’t care about no government warning ’bout the promotion of the simple life
  7. Since you’ve gone, I’ve been lost without a trace — I dream at night, I can only see your face
The Police, “Every Breath You Take” 📺
    Identified by Frodis Caper
  8. That kind of love was the killin’ kind
  9. You don’t need money, don’t take fame — don’t need no credit card to ride this train
Huey Lewis & The News, “The Power of Love” 📺
    Identified by Frodis Caper
  10. Some people, they like to go out dancin’. And other people, they have to work.

And when you’re done, see if John has any more to identify!
