Fun fact: I’ve been blogging since before the social media boom made blogs a seemingly-quaint curiosity, and I’m thrilled to see Gen Z (and last-wave Millennials) turning to blogs as a way to reclaim their internet experience from social media.

I got into blogging because of my brother. In those days, he was Thudfactor, and I was ArtMachine. He’s still Thudfactor, but I’ve moved on and become The Film Optimist.

In those days, there were a lot of things bloggers did to have regular updates on their pages — themed days, etc. And one of my favorites — and his, too, it turns out — was the Friday 10. The rules are simple — I’ve put my music player on shuffle, and the first 10 songs that came up, I put a lyric into the list below.

Now you get in the comments if you know the song. Give me the title and the artist, and the first to name a lyric gets credit in the post for being the one who guessed it. The rules are:

  1. No searching.
  2. Get at least close to the title. (“Um, Actually” rules apply — if you’re close, I’ll give you the point unless someone gets in with the correct title before I update the list)
  3. I’ll accept cover versions. In fact, given my long-standing love of “A Tribute To” compilations, there’s a good chance I’m listening to a cover version. But I have to be able to find the cover version you name. If you say, “Phish covered it in their October 31 show in 2021. Or 2020. But only in the second show,” I’m likely to not accept it unless I happen to be listening to that exact same cover.

You have until August 29 to answer, then I’ll update the list with any titles that haven’t been guessed.

Good luck, happy mutants and members of the Post-Human Society!
