Hurtin’ Runs Off My Shoulders

A girl with a loose ponytail carries a teddy bear that is almost the same size as her through a cloudy night with the full moon behind her.

The answers for last week’s Friday 10 have been posted, as well as the YouTube playlist for those of you who prefer to hear the songs. The priority, though, was this week’s 10! Which is late because I was driving home for most of the day — whatcha gonna do, hey?

Last week, John had an interesting guess when he pointed out that Lyric #2 (“Mr. Charles Darwin had the gall to ask”) fits the meter of Aimee Mann’s “Jacob Marley’s Chain,” which would have been a great song to show up in the Christmas 10, wouldn’t it? But it was, in fact, R.E.M.’s “Man on the Moon,” which pre-dates the Andy Kaufman biopic of the same title and, in my opinion, is better than the original song R.E.M. wrote for its soundtrack.

Remember, no searchin’ (you asked ChatGPT, you asked Grok, I asked why you hate fun), get close to the title, and I give credit for covers, but only if I can find them.

  1. Yeah, every guess in my head for #1 was miles away from Hotel California; I’ll have to go back and listen to that one again.
