It’s Friday time again, and it’s the day for you to guess the artists and titles from my shuffled music player!
Last week’s included a line of lyrics in Japanese, which hardly seems fair from an English-language blog run by someone who is functionally a monoglot, but it was “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” from Creepy Nuts — a song that should be familiar to fans of awesome anime who have watched “Mashle: Magic and Muscles.” Creepy Nuts is the duo of DJ Matsunaga and R-Shitei, and not only is this an anime opening theme, but it was the highest-performing song in Japan in 2024, was certified Diamond in its home country and certified Gold (500,000 sales) in the US. And believe me when I tell you R-Shitei’s flow is truly sick. As can be witnessed in this video of them performing the song in a single take.
Also, because I love wordplay, the Creepy Nuts lyric last week was “高級車は買える免許は無い愛車 green, green,” which translates to English as “I can afford luxury cars without a license — my car is green, green.” In Japan, the bullet trains and limited express trains on the rail system include “Green Cars,” marked with a clover logo next to the entrance. They’re first-class rail cars with larger, more comfortable seats that are reserved. So… he doesn’t need a driver’s license, because his “car” is a luxury seat on the train.

- I give credit for cover versions, but they have to be relatively well-known. “Alice Cooper would play a cover of it live, but only if he rolled a Nat 20 before a show and it was never recorded,” is just next-level trivia and you should absolutely be proud of knowing that, but I won’t count it.
