Last week’s answers are posted up and ready for your perusal! It included an African artist providing his version of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” and the title track from Paul Simon’s “Graceland,” which is an album I find myself consistently returning to.
Also in the mix was the MIKA and Ariana Grande duet “Popular Song,” which was written based on the Wicked song “Popular” (and licensed from the original songwriter appropriately) and which on its release was flooded with comments online from Wicked fans wishing various kinds of psychological and physical injury upon MIKA for “ripping off” Stephen Schwartz.
I quite like this version of the song, as well as MIKA’s album version which was closer to the Broadway arrangement and saw Ariana’s part performed by Priscilla Renea.
Now, get ready to get in the comments and identify a new set of 10 shuffled songs from my music player! And when you’re done commenting, head over to Thudfactor for more!
Da Rules
- No searchin’ (Not on Google, not on Bing, not on Genius, and not on ChatGPT)
- Get close to the artist and title
- Covers get credit (Or originals if the version I’m listening to is a cover), but I have to be able to find them
Da Lyrics
- Strangers waitin’ up and down the boulevard
- Let’s pop him in a boiling pot, and when he’s done we’ll butter him up!
- The world outside looks so unkind, so I’m countin’ on you to carry me through
- I wanna live close to the sun — well, pack your bags, ’cause I’ve already won
- So let me hide the tears and the sadness you gave me
- We’re tryna get this all in one take — so let’s try and make that happen
- If you are confused, check with the sun
R.E.M., “Stand”📺
Identified by John - They have no shield, no secrets to reveal
- You should have heard the things she said — you know she hurt my feelings deep
- You think you’re in the movies and everything’s so deep
